Yogi Adityanath has decided not to impose a new tax in Uttar Pradesh

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, stated on Friday that the government has neither raised the Value Added Tax (VAT) or imposed any new taxes in the State while keeping in mind the wider public interest.

At his residence, Mr. Adityanath presided over a meeting of the state tax department about revenue collection, and he announced that the VAT will not be raised any time soon.

Yogi Adityanath stated that funds raised from the people would be used for public welfare and development projects.

According to a formal statement published here, Mr. Adityanath stated that the funds raised from the general public would be used for projects aimed at development and public welfare.

For the fiscal year 2022–2023, Mr. Adityanath ordered that real efforts in revenue collection be made with the goal of collecting 1.50 lakh crore in Goods and Services Tax (GST) and VAT.

The Chief Minister also gave instructions to staff to register 4 lakh more traders with the GST in the upcoming six months.

The statement quoted the Chief Minister as saying that the traders should be informed of the advantages of GST registration and return.

Inquiring about the efforts being made to meet the zone-specific revenue collection objective for the current fiscal year, Yogi Adityanath provided the essential recommendations to increase revenue collection in accordance with the potential of various zones.

The state’s total revenue collection was 58,700 crore in the fiscal year 2017–18, and it is expected to reach about 1 lakh crore in 2021–22. The collection for the first quarter of the current fiscal year is 32,386 crore compared to the target of 31,786 crore, which can be deemed satisfactory, the governor said.

Yogi advised making an attempt to reach the fiscal year’s tax collection goal of 1.50 lakh crore.

The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that he would have a monthly meeting to assess the weekly targets that would be given to the field officers by the officials.
