The incident occurred when the EMU train, which was coming from Shakur Basti, reached Mathura Junction at 10:49 pm. Thankfully, all passengers had safely disembarked from the train before the accident occurred.
Railway station director SK Srivastava confirmed that a high-level probe has been ordered to investigate the cause of the derailment and the subsequent climb onto the platform. He also revealed that a woman received an electric shock during the incident but was promptly treated with first aid.
Videos shared by several news agencies captured the startling moment when the train’s engine came to rest perilously close to the station name board after hitting the electric pole.
The derailment and platform climb resulted in the temporary restriction of train movement on platform 2A. However, other railway services at Mathura Junction continued to operate normally.
This incident comes just days after a 12-year-old boy named Mursalin Seikh prevented a potentially catastrophic accident in West Bengal. The quick-thinking teenager, the son of a migrant laborer from a nearby village, spotted a rain-damaged portion of the tracks at the Bhaluka road yard. In a heroic act, he waved his red shirt to alert the loco-pilot of an approaching passenger train, prompting the use of emergency brakes and preventing a major tragedy.
Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, praised Mursalin Seikh’s bravery, stating, “The boy acted sensibly at that point in time and alerted the loco-pilot of an approaching passenger train by waving his red shirt along with other on-duty railway staff.”
As authorities continue to investigate the Mathura Junction incident, the railway network emphasizes the importance of safety and vigilance among both passengers and railway staff. Despite the close call, the quick actions of individuals like Mursalin Seikh serve as a reminder of the critical role awareness and prompt response play in averting potential disasters on India’s railways.
