Sudhir became India’s first gold medalist in Para Powerlifting at the Commonwealth Games 2022: India’s Sudhir won gold in the men’s heavyweight final of para powerlifting to cap off a successful Day 7. Prior to him, Murali Sreeshankar won a historic silver medal for India in the men’s long jump with a best jump of 8.08m.

Notably, Sreeshankar’s achievement was the first long jump silver medal won by an Indian male athlete in Commonwealth Games history. Meanwhile, boxer Rohit Tokas advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s welterweight division. Manika Batra, the defending champion, advanced to the round of 16 in the women’s singles with a 4-0 victory. Meanwhile, paddlers Sreeja Akula and Reeth Tennison both advanced to the women’s singles round of 16 with victories. Aakarshi Kashyap advanced to the women’s singles round of 16 in badminton. The Indian men’s hockey team also had a successful outing, with Harmanpreet Singh’s hat-trick helping them defeat Wales 4-1 in Pool

The victory secured them a place in the semi-finals. Earlier, boxers Amit Panghal, Jaismine Lamboriya, and Sagar Ahlawat ensured India at least three bronze medals with victories in the quarter-finals of the men’s flyweight, women’s lightweight, and men’s super heavyweight divisions. Hima Das advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 200m, while Manju Bala advanced to the final of the women’s hammer throw. PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth both won their badminton singles Round of 32 matches.

Sudhir wins gold in powerlifting!

Sudhir’s final attempt at 217kg was unsuccessful. He does, however, win a gold medal in men’s heavyweight para powerlifting.
