Subman Gill breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the highest score by an Indian in Zimbabwe

Subman Gill and Sikandar Raza both hit centuries for their respective teams in the third and final ODIs, with India surviving Raza’s scare to defeat Zimbabwe 3-0 in Harare. Gill hit his maiden international century, scoring 130 off 97 balls, including 15 fours and a six, to help India post a massive total of 289/8 in 50 overs. In response, Raza finally found his form in the series, scoring a tonne in the run-chase but failing to get his team over the line this time.

In terms of how the final match played out, captain KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bat first. He had 30 points, while his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan had 40. Subman Gill raced to his first century in 82 deliveries thanks to Subman Gill’s excellent strokeplay. Ishan Kishan also scored 50 off 61 balls. Brad Evans was the pick of the hosts’ bowlers, taking five wickets for 54 runs in ten overs.

Chasing 290, openers Tadukzwanashe Kaitano and Innocent Kaia could only muster 13 and six runs, respectively, while Sean Williams scored 45 off 46 balls, including seven fours. Raza, like in the recent Bangladesh series, kept the home side in the hunt for the run-chase and appeared to be on his way to winning the match.

With 17 required off the final two overs, Shardul Thakur dismissed the big fish for 115, effectively ending Zimbabwe’s hopes. Raza faced 95 balls, hitting nine fours and three maximums. He was unable to replicate his heroics, as his team fell short by 13 runs. The tourists annihilated Zimbabwe, winning their 15th consecutive match against them. Subman Gill was named Player of the Match and Player of the Series for his spectacular tonne and 245 runs in three appearances.
