Rohit Sharma has surpassed Pakistani Shahid Afridi as the second highest six-hitter in international cricket, thanks to three maximums in the ongoing fourth T20I between West Indies and India, which is being played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida on August 6, 2022.
India currently leads the five-match series 2-1, and the final two Twenty20 Internationals will be played back-to-back in Florida on August 6 and 7. Rohit Sharma was forced to retire hurt in the third T20I due to a back spasm, and his availability for the fourth T20I against West Indies was called into question.
He was seen warming up and coming out for the toss, which was delayed by 45 minutes due to rain and a wet outfield. West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran won the toss and chose to bat first, revealing that the Men in Maroon were unchanged for this match.
India, on the other hand, made three changes to the playing XI from the previous match, bringing in Sanju Samson for Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi for R Ashwin, and Axar Patel for Hardik Pandya.
Rohit Sharma surpasses Chris Gayle as the second most prolific six-hitter in international cricket.
Rohit Sharma came out firing with his strokeplay, entertaining the entire crowd at the Ford Lauderhill cricket ground. He was also harsh on the hero of the second T20I victory, Obed McCoy, hitting him for a huge six.
He scored 33 runs in 16 balls and looked set for more before being bowled by Akeal Hossein. He hit two fours and three sixes during his knock. And, thanks to his three sixes, he surpassed Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi to take second place on the list of the most six hitters in international cricket.
From 1996 to 2018, Afridi hit 476 sixes in his career, including 52 maximums in 27 Tests, 351 sixes in 398 ODIs, and 73 sixes in 99 T20Is. Rohit Sharma now has 477 sixes to his name, 64 of which came in 45 Tests, 250 in ODIs, and 163 in 131 T20Is.
However, the player with the most sixes is West Indian Chris Gayle, who has 553 in his career. From 1999 to 2021, he hit 98 sixes in 103 Tests, 331 sixes in 301 ODIs, and 124 sixes in 79 T20Is for the Men in Maroon.
