Actor Shyam Sundar Kalani, who played the role of ‘Sugriva’ in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, passed away. TV actor Arun Govil, who played the role of Lord Ram, confirmed the news of his death.
Arun Govil wrote on his Twitter account, “It is very sad to know about the demise of Shri Shyam Sundar who played the role of Sugriva in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’… Was a very nice and gentle man, may his soul rest in peace . “
Sunil Lahiri, who played the role of Laxman, shared a heartfelt note for Shyam Sundar Kalani on Twitter. He wrote, “We are very sad and sorry for the sudden demise of our colleague Mr. Shyam Kalani, who played the role of Sugriva with us in the Ramayana. May God give his soul peace and strength to his family to face irreparable loss.
The late actor’s nephew Kamal Madnani confirmed the news and shared that Shyam had been battling cancer for a long time. He died on 6 April after his battle with prolonged illness.
Shyam Sundar started his acting career with Ramayana. Apart from Ramayana, he played the role of ‘Bhima’ in ‘Mahabharata’, and also appeared in films like Heer Ranjha, Trimurti and Chhaila Babu.
