Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among the members of both houses who attended the goodbye ceremony. The term of President Kovind expires on July 24. Draupadi Murmu, the nation’s newly elected president, will then take the oath of office on Monday to become the 15th president of India. Murmu will wield the nation’s highest constitutional position for the first time as a tribal woman.
In his speech at the farewell event held in the Central Hall of Parliament House, President Ram Nath Kovind advised MPs to always practise Gandhism when exercising their rights to dissent and debate in Parliament. The parliament, according to him, is the temple of democracy. President Kovind conveyed his gratitude to the nation’s citizens during this time. He declared that he will always be appreciative to the people of the nation for giving him the chance to hold the office of President. President Kovind congratulated Draupadi Murmu on her victory and stated that the nation would profit from her leadership. He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, and Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla for their assistance throughout his term.
President Kovind was honoured at a dinner that Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted earlier on Friday. Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of different states, and dignitaries were also present.
