Most of people in favor of extending lock-down two weeks on coronavirus: survey

The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) conducted this survey between 3 and 6 April 2020 in the Delhi National Capital Region. The telephone survey took the response of 1,750 people.

New Delhi: The survey of economic research body NCAER related to economic policies has said that most people in the country are in favor of extending the lock-down for two weeks despite facing problems on many front.

The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) conducted the survey in the National Capital Region of Delhi between April 3 and 6, 2020. Delhi Corona Virus Telephone Survey (DCVTS) took the response of 1,750 people.

About 29.3 percent of the people in the survey said that their families are facing shortage of food, cooking items and fuel. The problem is more in rural areas during the 21-day lock-down implemented from 25 March. The lock-down ends on April 14 according to the schedule.

The survey said, ‘Despite facing difficulties and challenges, the respondents supported the idea of ​​extending the lock-down period with a majority. 86.7 percent of the respondents responded in favor of increasing the lock-down for two more weeks after 14 April 2020. 62.5 per cent strongly supported the expansion, while 24.2 per cent were largely in favor of it. ‘

According to NCAER, the survey shows that people are understanding the magnitude of the disease and the importance of social distance.

The findings of the survey said that 32.6 percent of the households in the rural area and 25.3 percent of the households in the urban area experienced a supply shortage due to the ban.
