Elon Musk Unveils Twitter ‘s X Logo Redesign – Twice in One Night

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, caused a stir on Twitter by changing the platform’s logo multiple times in a short period. First, he replaced the blue bird logo with a bold “X” logo, but then quickly made another change, opting for slightly thicker lines. However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the thicker bars and announced a reversal of the change, stating that the logo would continue to evolve over time.

Musk’s statement suggested that he is not done experimenting with Twitter’s branding, and more logo iterations might be on the way. The new logo appeared on Twitter’s homepage and caught the attention of millions of users, with Musk himself changing his profile picture to match the new design. Interestingly, neither version of the logo had been added to Twitter’s mobile app at the time of Musk’s announcement.

The modified logo was inspired by a design shared by a Twitter user named Sawyer Merritt. Musk acknowledged the influence of the creative community in shaping the platform’s visual identity and mentioned that he got the idea for the new logo from Merritt over the weekend.

The logo transformation started when Musk declared his intent to rebrand Twitter as “X” on a Sunday. He invited users to submit potential logo designs, with the promise to make the best one go live the very next day. Musk pinned a tweet from Sawyer Merritt, containing a video showcasing the “X” logo, and unveiled it on the site.

The initial version of the “X” logo resembled Monotype’s Special Alphabets 4 font and a Unicode character. Musk clarified that it would serve as an “interim” choice, leaving room for speculation on whether he will eventually settle on a final logo design for Twitter.

Elon Musk’s ever-evolving branding journey for Twitter has sparked intrigue among users and the creative community. As he continues to tweak the logo, we can expect further changes and developments in the platform’s visual identity.
