Covid-19: 20 control rooms across the country will solve laborers’ problems in lockdown

These control rooms have been set up in cities like Patna, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Kanpur, Dehradun, Guwahati. Their officers and WhatsApp numbers are on the website of the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

The Labor Ministry has set up 20 control rooms in various parts of the country to address wage-related complaints and problems of migrant laborers during the ‘lock-down’  issued for prevention of coronavirus.

The Prime Minister has announced to extend the period of nationwide lock-down till May 3. Also, after assessing the situation, from April 20, he has also said to give conditional exemption in some cases.

Workers, especially migrant laborers, are the most affected due to this shutdown. Many of them have had to cut wages or lose their jobs.

According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), 40 crore workers working in the unorganized sector in India are trapped in the quagmire of poverty due to the lockdown.

“It has established 20 control rooms under the office of the Chief Labor Commissioner across the country in view of the situation arising out of the corona virus,” the labor ministry said in a statement.

These control rooms will be managed by the labor compliance officer of the concerned area, the regional labor commissioner and the deputy chief labor commissioner.

According to the ministry, all control rooms will be monitored and monitored on a daily basis by the office of the Chief Labor Commissioner of the headquarters.

According to the statement, all concerned officers / employees have been advised to take a humanitarian approach to help the aggrieved workers. Also, they have been asked to ensure that timely relief is available to the needy.

Earlier, the ministry had issued a consultation to employers, asking them not to remove employees or cut wages.
