If everything goes as planned, these athletes would get their awards on August 29 during “National Sports Day.” India received 61 medals in total, including 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze, to place fourth overall in the medal count. Athletes from Uttar Pradesh took home two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze in the 2018 Gold Coast Games.
According to the state’s sports policy, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, a member of the silver-winning men’s hockey team, women’s cricketers Deepti Sharma and Meghana Singh, who both won silver, and race walker Priyanka Goswami, who also won silver in the 10,000m, will each receive a bonus of 75 million.
Each of the following athletes will receive 50 lakh: wrestler Divya Kakran, javelin thrower Annu Rani, judoka Vijay Kumar Yadav, and Vandana Katraiya, a member of the women’s hockey team that won a bronze medal.
In addition to them, five other athletes will receive 5 lakh apiece as participation money, including Seema Punia (discus throw), Punam Yadav, Purnima Pandey (both weightlifting), Rohit Yadav (javelin), and Sarita Singh (hammer).
Punam Yadav, a weightlifter, and Jitu Rai, a shooter, both took home gold medals in the 2018 Games. Seema Punia and Divya Kakran placed second and third, respectively.
The chief minister Yogi Adityanath made the promise during the cash award distribution to the medal-winning athletes from the Tokyo Olympics at a function here in Lucknow, and it was carried out in January of this year. The prize money for the medal-winning athletes at the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and World Cup was increased by three times.
All eight medal-winning athletes would be eligible for government positions in various departments in addition to cash rewards under the “Uttar Pradesh international games medal winners direct recruitment rules-2022.”
